This is one of five cherry trees in the garden. One is a flowering cherry but the rest, like this one,
bear fruit every year.
The cherries are fairly sour, so last year we pickled several jars, to eat with cold meats.
Although the topsoil is about 4 feet deep, it is fairly poor: more like dark brown sand. However, bulbs
seem to thrive. Most of the bulbs in flower are daffodils.
